Halef – Episode 34, Part 1

Opening Scene: The Kidnapping and Its Aftermath

The episode begins in a chaotic and violent atmosphere. A man named Kenan has kidnapped Melek and Yıldız. During a struggle, Kenan’s gun accidentally fires, and Ayten Hanım (Yıldız’s mother) is shot. The scene is frantic: Yıldız screams for help, begs someone named Sarho to do something, and calls for an ambulance. Her mother is losing a lot of blood. A man named Yusuf and another referred to as Ortak (Partner) decide to take Ayten to the hospital by car instead of waiting for an ambulance, fearing they won’t make it in time.

Yıldız is torn between staying with her mother and taking a crucial exam. Her mother insists she goes to the exam. Yusuf takes charge, telling Yıldız to trust him with her mother’s life while she goes to secure her future. He threatens that if anything happens to her mother, he will personally kill the person responsible. They rush Ayten to the hospital, where she is taken into surgery in critical condition.

The Exam and Yıldız’s Determination

Yıldız, accompanied by her brother (referred to as “Abi”), rushes to her exam. They encounter a traffic jam caused by a stubborn truck driver. Her brother loses his temper, threatens the driver, and clears the way. Yıldız arrives just as the exam gates are closing. A kind official helps her compose herself, and she enters the exam hall after saying “Bismillah.”

The episode then flashes back (or shows a memory/reflection) of a younger Yıldız asking why only boys go to school and girls don’t. She is told the school is far, and girls cannot walk there and back. Young Yıldız defiantly declares that she will go to university. There is a scene where someone (possibly an authority figure) had erased her registration from a preparatory course, saying she has no identity and cannot be in the same class as other innocent children. Despite this, Yıldız remains resilient, calling herself an untamable lion.

The Hospital: Ayten’s Critical Condition

At the hospital, Yıldız’s brother anxiously awaits news. He learns that Ayten is still in surgery and her condition is critical. He informs Ortak that Yıldız made it to the exam. Ortak reflects on how he once burned Yıldız’s books and ruined her life, but now he has helped her get to the exam. He admits she succeeded on her own.

Later, Yıldız visits her mother in the hospital. Ayten, aware that she doesn’t have much time left, gives her daughter a powerful and dark speech. She tells Yıldız that everyone in the konak (mansion) wants to separate her from Serhat. She names the main enemies: Akif (Serhat’s brother, who wants to take his place), Nurgül (Akif’s wife), and most importantly, Sultan (Serhat’s mother). She says Yıldız must do everything to eliminate anyone who stands in her way, without mercy. She makes Yıldız promise not to postpone the wedding if she dies.

The Konak (Mansion) Politics and Conflicts

Back in the konak, several characters plot and argue:

  • Meryem (a key figure, possibly Serhat’s mother or an antagonist) is furious because her belongings have been moved to another room on the orders of Ziyan Ağa. She threatens revenge.

  • Melek, who is pregnant with Serhat’s child, arrives at the konak. She is greeted warmly by some but immediately engages in tense conversations. She admits she called Serhat because she wanted her child to have a home, but she also reveals she made a deal with Kenan to get rid of Yıldız – a plan that backfired and got them both kidnapped.

  • Ziyan Ağa is confronted by Melek, who demands that he help her get evidence to put Meryem in jail for killing her parents. Melek threatens that if Ziyan doesn’t do everything in his power (and more), his grandchild will be raised in the “durantanların” (the enemies’) courtyard, not in the konak.

  • Ziyan Ağa is also shown being poisoned or threatened by another character (likely his wife or a rival), who tells him to fear her and give the leadership to his son, or she will cut off his useless breath.

There are also lighthearted scenes with children and older women discussing marriages, food, and vitamins for Melek’s pregnancy, contrasting with the dark political intrigues.

The Climax of the Episode: Confrontation at the Hospital and Police Station

At the hospital, a heated confrontation erupts. Melek is there for a check-up on her baby (who is healthy). Yıldız arrives. Serhat is also present. Yıldız accuses Melek of being the cause of her mother’s shooting. Melek tries to justify herself, but Yıldız is furious.

Serhat tries to mediate. Melek reveals that she had called Serhat to meet face to face because she wanted her child to grow up in the konak but had conditions. Unbeknownst to Serhat, she had made a deal with Kenan, who decided to kidnap both of them. Melek claims she was also a victim.

Yıldız threatens to go to the police. Serhat begs her not to, because Melek is pregnant with his child. He says that if Melek goes to prison, the stress and sorrow will harm the baby. Yıldız eventually agrees not to press charges on one condition: Melek must apologize. Melek, humiliated, gives a dry, sarcastic apology.

But Yıldız is not finished. She lays down another condition: Melek’s baby will be raised in the courtyard of the “durantanlar” (the idle ones) of their konak, and Melek will not utter a single word against it. Melek, cornered, accepts.

How Part 1 Ends

The first part ends with several unresolved threads:

  1. Ayten Hanım is in critical condition in the hospital. She has given Yıldız a dark roadmap to power, urging her to be ruthless.

  2. Yıldız has shown her strength by forcing Melek to apologize and accept harsh conditions for her child.

  3. Melek is now bound by Yıldız’s terms, though she remains a dangerous player.

  4. Ziyan Ağa is being manipulated and poisoned by someone close to him, who demands he give power to his son.

  5. Meryem is scheming to regain her lost position in the konak.

  6. Serhat is caught between Yıldız and Melek, trying to protect both his unborn child and his relationship with Yıldız.

The episode ends with Ayten’s poignant line: “My beautiful-eyed daughter… Son, will you ever give up in life?”

How This Part Ends

This part ends on a tense, unresolved note. Ayten Hanım is fighting for her life in the hospital after giving Yıldız a ruthless strategy for survival. Yıldız has asserted her dominance over Melek by forcing an apology and dictating where Melek’s child will be raised. However, Melek remains in the konak, pregnant with Serhat’s child, and the power struggle is far from over.

Ziyan Ağa has been poisoned and threatened, showing that the battle for leadership is also heating up. Meryem is plotting revenge. Serhat is trying to keep the peace but is caught between two women.

The episode ends with Ayten’s emotional question: “Son, will you ever give up in life?” This serves as a direct challenge to Yıldız (and the viewer) about perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds.
