Episode 47 (Part 3): The Final Confrontation and Bittersweet Ending
This third part is the emotional and philosophical climax of the series. It shifts from action to deep introspection, focusing on Eşref’s final confrontation with the “Old Man” (the antagonist), his heartbreaking goodbye to his daughter Rüya, and the ultimate sacrifice he makes for his family’s future.
Main Plot Points
The episode begins with a moment of deceptive calm. Eşref makes plans for a family night out. He has reserved a place at Hayri Usta’s, and even Hafize Ana agrees to join. Nisan is happy, noticing how Eşref’s eyes light up when he is with Rüya. Gülümser Hanım (Nisan’s mother) sadly remembers that her own late husband had made similar plans. She reveals that she knows Eşref intends to leave them, saying, “You’re not coming with us, are you?”
Eşref has a quiet but devastating conversation with Gülümser. He admits that he has found his dreams – Nisan and Rüya – but they will not last. He says, “I have to wake up. If Nisan suspects even for a moment, she will give up everything. That man will die tonight. For every moment he made Nisan and my daughter suffer, I will take his life.”
Later, Nisan and Eşref share a tender moment watching Rüya sleep. Nisan shows Eşref the new house they are building – a large kitchen, everything as she wanted. She tells him, “You’re finally keeping your promise. We will grow old together.” Eşref replies, “For you and our daughter, there is nothing I wouldn’t do.” He has bought a small organ for Rüya, hoping she might love music like her mother.
But the happiness is fragile. As Nisan and Gürdal leave for the restaurant, Eşref stays behind. He calls his men and gives a chilling order: “Empty the house tonight. No one stays. Go wherever you want. Do not return here.” Sacit protests, “Eşref abi, would we ever turn away from your path?” Eşref replies, “Turn back. This path is not a path. I am leaving too.”
Then comes the final confrontation between Eşref and the Old Man. The Old Man mocks Eşref, saying he is dying because of his pride. He claims that Eşref is becoming just like him – because they grew up with the same blood. But Eşref refuses to accept this. He says, “I am not like you. I don’t justify anything I’ve done. At night, the faces of people I’ve separated from their loved ones come before my eyes. I can’t sleep. I know my sins. That is the difference between us. You think you are fate itself. But I know I am a man who has made many mistakes.”
Eşref explains his hope for redemption: the orphan children he supports. “In every table I set, in every home I protect, in every child I educate, I try to reduce the darkness inside me. Because a person cannot erase their past. But what comes after them… can turn into something else.” He accuses the Old Man of wanting to inflict pain and crush others, while he himself only wanted to live and survive. “Just because I passed through darkness, I didn’t want everyone around me to live in darkness.”
The Old Man is mortally wounded. As he dies, he describes death as quiet and lonely. “It comes without shouting. First images blur. Nisan will go. Then my daughter will go. Then your brothers. Then the sounds will fade… and finally the connection with life will silently break.”
Eşref watches him die. He then has a final, heart-wrenching vision or dream with Rüya. He asks her, “You will never leave me, will you?” She replies, “I will always be by your side. We will never be apart again. You will not suffer anymore.” He asks, “Promise?” She says, “Promise, father.”

How This Part Ends (The Finale)
The ending is tragic but meaningful. Eşref does survive the confrontation with the Old Man? The subtitles suggest that Eşref is the one who dies. In the final sequences, his heartbeat slows. He hears Nisan’s voice as if meeting her for the first time: “What is your name? Nisan. I am Eşref. Nice to meet you.” He feels as if a knife is being stuck in his heart. He says, “I see Rüya in her.”
The narrator’s voice returns: “His own death would make his dreams live. Because the fate of some men is not to reunite with their loved ones, but to watch them from afar and be grateful that they are alive.”
The final image is of Eşref’s men arriving at the scene, shouting “Baba!” (Father!). But Eşref does not respond. He has died. He sacrificed himself so that Nisan and Rüya could live in peace – in the house he built for them in Tuscany, far from the violence. The series ends with the idea that Eşref’s love and protection will live on through his family, even though he himself cannot be with them.
It is a powerful, emotional ending about redemption, sacrifice, and the hope that one can break the cycle of darkness – even if it costs one’s own life.
