Summary of Part One: “The Law of the Land”
The first part of the episode introduces two parallel storylines that are destined to collide: a high-stakes corporate drama in Istanbul and a rural family crisis on a farm.
Storyline 1: Istanbul – The Fallout of a Closure
Doğa, the daughter of powerful businessman Hulusi Arcalı, is shown to be a young, ambitious, and somewhat entitled corporate figure. She has just closed down a subsidiary company called “Seryus,” believing she has acted correctly by paying all legal compensations. However, she is confronted by a group of former employees who ambush her, claiming they have been victimized and left jobless. They demand to speak directly with her father, Hulusi. Doğa is visibly shaken and dismissive, but the incident reveals a major flaw in her cold, corporate-minded approach—she sees people as numbers, not as lives affected by her decisions.
Later, her father, Hulusi Arcalı, confronts her angrily in his office. He recites the names of the employees she laid off, shaming her for not knowing them. He criticizes her for chasing big dreams and dragging people along, only to abandon them when things get difficult. He reminds her that paying compensation does not erase the damage done to people’s hopes and futures. He orders her to leave his office and not return with any new projects until she has truly thought about the consequences of her actions. Devastated, Doğa turns to her best friend for support. She decides she needs “therapy” and plans to refocus on their “Paris project,” vowing to win her father back by polishing their business proposal.
Storyline 2: The Farm – Financial Ruin and a Desperate Call
Parallel to this, we are introduced to a large, struggling family farm run by Yaman, a passionate but overwhelmed young man. The farm is facing immediate bankruptcy. The bank has called, demanding full payment of their debt within two days, or they will face legal seizure of the property. The family is in panic.
Yaman’s uncle, aunt, and other relatives gather. They discuss selling everything—their cattle, their land, even their home—but they realize it will never be enough. Yaman’s best friend, Burak, tries to help, but Yaman refuses to let Burak’s retired parents sell their only house. In a moment of solidarity, Burak offers his own savings. But the family’s matriarch-like figure, Perihan (Yaman’s aunt), steps in. She reminds them of a possible solution: a wealthy investor from their own village who has become a huge success.
The investor is none other than Hulusi Arcalı, Doğa’s father. Perihan has a complicated, emotional history with Hulusi—a past romantic connection that never materialized, which is why she never married. Despite this, she swallows her pride and makes the phone call. Hulusi, hearing her voice, is visibly moved but professional. He agrees to meet with the “young man” (Yaman) the next day in Istanbul to discuss investment possibilities.
The Unseen Connection
The episode cleverly builds irony. The audience knows that Yaman’s potential savior is the father of Doğa, the very person who just caused a separate wave of layoffs in the city. Furthermore, earlier in the episode, during a hiking trip, Yaman and Burak had a tense, angry encounter with a young woman—Doğa herself—while rescuing her dog, Samsa, from a cliff. They parted on terrible terms, with Yaman accusing her of being irresponsible and Doğa calling him rude. Neither knows who the other really is.
Main Roles in This Part
-
Doğa Arcalı: The daughter of a powerful businessman. She is intelligent, ambitious, and stylish but also impulsive, emotionally immature, and disconnected from the real-world consequences of her corporate decisions. She is trying to launch a “Paris project” to prove herself.
-
Hulusi Arcalı: The patriarch. A stern, wise, and morally grounded businessman. Despite his wealth, he values human connection and integrity. He has a hidden, tender past with Perihan from his village.
-
Yaman: The young, hardworking head of the family farm. He is proud, stubborn, and deeply connected to the land. He is struggling to keep the farm afloat and refuses handouts, but he is desperate. He is brave (he rescues Samsa) but also has a short temper, especially toward Doğa.
-
Perihan (Hala/Aunt): Yaman’s aunt. She is the strong, silent pillar of the family. She sacrificed her own chance at love (with Hulusi) to raise her relatives. She is the one who ultimately calls Hulusi, showing immense strength by putting family above her old wounds.
-
Burak: Yaman’s loyal, humorous best friend. He is supportive, more socially adaptable, and often acts as a mediator or comic relief, but he is also prone to awkwardness.
How This Part Ends
The segment ends on a major cliffhanger. Yaman is furious and refuses to go to Istanbul to meet Hulusi Arcalı because he has just learned that the rude, irresponsible woman he argued with on the cliff is Hulusi’s daughter, Doğa. Yaman stubbornly declares, “I’m not going. Burak can go and talk.” The family is torn. Meanwhile, Doğa is oblivious to the connection, still focused on her Paris dream and repairing her relationship with her father.
Conclusion of Part One: The stage is set for a classic romantic-comedy-drama collision. A proud farm boy who hates the rich city girl is about to be forced into a business meeting with her father. And the rich city girl, who despises the “rude mountain man,” has no idea that he is the key to the investment that could save his family—and that he might soon walk into her father’s office. The “law of the land” here seems to be that past actions, family loyalty, and unexpected encounters will always come back to demand a price.
